The term “screenless display” refers to a display that can be projected in whatever location the user desires, including windows or an outdoor space. According to a recent BCC Research report, screenless display technology will be a life-changing notion, as well as an exciting area of development.
What is screenless display?
Screenless display is a new type of projection-based display that integrates the most recent advancement in three areas of technology:
Screenless display combines these three technologies to enable users to project any content onto practically any surface using a small, transportable wireless device. A display surface could be anything from a table or wall in an office, to a house or kitchen countertop, the outside of a camping tent or even a door frame.
The COVID-19 pandemic slowed the development of the screenless display market. Most players in the industry have delayed product launches, due to the sharp rise in demand for medical device equipment. This overtook previous launch plans in 2020, but the following year began to show signs of improvement, with the majority of facilities ramping back up to full efficiency.
Screenless Display is on the Verge of a Revolution
Innovation is happening at an increasingly faster rate. As such, existing display technology – touchscreen technology – will become obsolete, paving the way for screenless display. This will replace the touchscreen ecosystem currently seen across smartphones, tablets and computers and will be able to resolve issues at a higher level.
Technological advances being seen across augmented, virtual and mixed reality are forming a new world in which virtual and physical systems are blended. User experience environments will develop into new, hybrid experiences as a result of the growth of transported and integrated technologies, alongside fully interactive, physical-virtual interactions.
As screenless display technology continues to evolve, and finds its use across multiple fields, the increasing number of collaboration and acquisitions are helping create more widespread awareness of this revolutionary technology. Equally, there are many screenless display technology research studies taking place across multiple universities and research facilities in collaboration with manufacturers across the world.
What are Some Restraints Across the Screenless Display Industry?
Screenless display technology is still in its infancy, but like every technology connected to the internet, there is a risk of hacking. Cybercrime has seen a drastic increase over the past few years and some of the following examples are a threat to the screenless display industry:
The majority of attacks that have occurred in recent years were reported by small and medium-sized businesses, and oftentimes, these organizations don’t have sufficient budget or resource to invest in cyber solutions.
Semiconductor Shortages Also Present Issues for Screenless Display
Semiconductor chips are critical technology boosters that support a large number of today’s cutting edge digital products. Presently, semiconductor chips are used to power everything, including smart devices and sensors in autonomous cars. However, semiconductor chips are in short supply globally. The initial cause of this shortage was a halt to manufacturing during the coronavirus outbreak.
Meanwhile, the pandemic has led in a surge in sales of 5G-enabled mobile phones, gaming consoles, smart devices, and personal computers – all which demand semiconductors. This is due to intermittent international lockdowns, as well as shifting lifestyles, working from home practices and hybrid working/learning environments. This, combined with the growing digitalization of automobiles has resulted in a boom in the consumption of semiconductor chips, which supply currently cannot meet.
